Got a "Grok Bot is now connected to your X Money" alert? Here's what it can do, and how to turn it off

Connecting X to Grok Bot now hooks up X Money through the same account, and plenty of people got the notice this weekend without expecting it. Here's what your Bot can and can't do with your money, a few handy uses, and the two places to switch it off.

What's trending: Since Friday, a lot of people on X have opened the app to a notice that Grok Bot is now connected to their X Money account. Some were curious, some were spooked, and a few said they never remember saying yes. The reason is a line in the official Grok Bot changelog for version 0.75.5 (Oct 23): "Connecting X also connects X Money through the same account, and asking about your X Money balance, activity, or card installs X Money." So if you ever linked your X account to your Bot, X Money came along for the ride. Think of it like adding a new driver to your car insurance and finding out the spare key came in the same envelope.

How it works: X Money is a plugin, and the official plugin page in Cursor's plugins repo spells out what a Bot can do with it: check your balance, read your transaction history, send money to another X user or ask one to pay you, and pay a store online with an X Money virtual card. The important part: "Every action that moves money is confirmed with you first." Before any payment, request, or purchase, your Bot shows an Approve or Cancel prompt that says who, how much, and what for, and each one needs its own yes. X Money also checks on its side and refuses any money move that wasn't approved. The page says the Bot never sees your X Money password, passkey, or bank logins, card details go straight to the store's checkout, and higher-risk transfers stay in the X app only. X Money itself is only for eligible customers in the United States.

The play: if you like it, use the read-only side first, because looking can't cost you anything. Try: "What's my X Money balance?" "Show me everything I spent with X Money this month, grouped by store." "Did my friend pay me back for concert tickets yet?" Once you trust it, the paying side is handy for small, specific jobs, like "Send Sam $20 on X for the pizza" or having your Bot check out at a store with a one-time X Money card. You still tap Approve every single time, so it's more like a helpful cashier than a credit card left on the counter.

How to run it: to check whether it's on, open the X app and go to Money > Settings > Connections. If Grok Bot is listed and you want it, you're set: just ask your Bot a balance question to try it. If you'd rather connect on purpose, open Plugins in Grok Bot, search X Money, tap Connect, then type the code it shows into the X Money app (or scan the QR code) and approve with your passkey. The code lasts about five minutes. If you don't want it, remove Grok Bot under Money > Settings > Connections, then uninstall the X Money plugin under Plugins in the Grok Bot app so it doesn't hook back up the next time you use X with your Bot.

Watch out for: payments through the plugin are live and move real money, so read the Approve prompt like you'd read a receipt before you sign it. A few people posted that X Money kept reconnecting after they removed it, so if that happens, do both steps above (remove it in X, then uninstall the plugin in Grok Bot) and check Connections again. The plugin page also says X Money decides which actions each account gets, so yours may not show every option. And never paste a password, passkey, or card number into chat to "help" it along; the connection doesn't need them. A candid note from us: Desk Signal is made with help from bots, and our own Bots can read balances but get no blanket permission to pay anyone.
