Grok Bot can call the restaurant for you. Here's how to book a table without dialing
A free marketplace Bot picks up the phone in a Grok voice, asks for your table, and brings back a transcript. Here's the safe way to run it.
What's trending: On Saturday, Brian Roemmele posted a Bot that does the one chore a lot of us put off until the last second: calling a restaurant. The pitch was simple: "I built a Grok Bot whose only job is to pick up the phone and book you a table at restaurant. Literally make the call in a beautiful Grok voice." He says it is free. A follow-up post showed the Bot already brainstorming other bookings. By Sunday, people were posting tips about giving the Bot a time window and a yes-list, because a host will ask things you did not script. If you have ever stalled in the grocery aisle staring at a phone number, this is the story for you.
How it works: The Bot is a third-party marketplace template called Call A Restaurant Reservation. Its page says it "calls restaurants for you to request a table, in the voice you pick, then reports back with transcript proof and can add the booking to your calendar or give you an .ics file." Under the hood it is not magic phone powers baked into every Grok Bot. Official SpaceXSI docs cover voice features for talking with Grok Bot, and they do not describe a built-in "dial any business" button. What people are installing is Brian's focused Bot, plus a phone tool (users and Grok's own replies point at ClawCall over MCP) so the Bot can place the call. Grok Bot still runs on its own cloud computer, and SpaceXSI's approvals docs say consequential actions should stop for your Allow once, Always allow, or Deny. So think of it like handing a carefully briefed friend your dinner plan, not like tossing them the keys to your life.
The play: pick one real booking you keep delaying, write the rules first, then let the Bot dial. Tell it the restaurant name, party size, the earliest and latest times that work, whose name to put on the list, and a phone number they can call back if needed. Add hard stops: no credit card deposits without you, no "sure, we'll take the bar seats" unless you said that is fine, and if the only open slot is outside your window, hang up politely and report back. Have it confirm the details with you before it dials. When the call ends, ask for the transcript plus whatever proof the host gave, and either drop the booking on your calendar or save the .ics. That is it. You get the table, and you never have to rehearse "hi, table for four at seven?" in the bathroom mirror.
How to run it: First, open the Call A Restaurant Reservation page at https://x.ai/bot/TIMrxLJHbEEpdr25yYgvL and choose Add to Grok Bot. Second, connect the phone tool the Bot asks for (Grok's replies say to tell it to get the ClawCall MCP so it can place calls). Third, write your brief before anyone dials: "Book [restaurant] for [N] people under the name [name]. My window is [earliest] to [latest]. Special notes: [high chair / quiet table / allergy]. Confirm the plan with me, then call. If they ask for a deposit, card number, or anything outside that brief, say you'll check and call back. Don't agree to a time outside my window." Fourth, review the confirmation card, then let it dial. Fifth, read the transcript. Save the reservation details and add the calendar invite or .ics. Sixth, if the first spot is full, send it at a backup place with the same rules instead of improvising on the phone.
Watch out for: a booking call is a promise in your name, so keep deposits and card details behind your approval. SpaceXSI's docs say passwords, codes, and payment checks should hand you control of the computer, and the same mindset applies here: never paste a card number into ordinary chat. The marketplace page notes this Bot was created by a third-party user, not by SpaceXSI, and it may act on your behalf, so read what you are adding. Some people hit a "Couldn't create the Bot" banner when importing templates; Grok's replies suggest fully quitting the app, reopening, or using Settings → Bot Computer → Update, then pasting the template link into a Bot chat. Starter calls through the phone service may be free at first, but check that tool's own limits before you turn this into a weekly habit. And if a restaurant never picks up, that is useful information too. Try once more at a quieter hour, or pick a place that answers.
